Variety description

10 August 2026

The name Pera Romana in scientific and agricultural literature refers to local Italian pear varieties. It is not a commercial intensive-type variety with fixed morphological traits, but a historically established designation for regional agrobiodiversity, an example of which is the Pera Romana del Casentino form.

Since this name covers a group of ancient folk forms, clear agronomic characteristics, such as tree height, maturity dates, or disease resistance indicators, are absent for it. Local varieties of this group were traditionally used for local consumption.
