The variety Roodknop, which translates to "red bud," is characterized by medium to vigorous bush growth. Black fruits with green flesh and firm skin are gathered in short clusters of 5–7, have a sweet and sour taste, and are suitable for fresh consumption or processing.

The plant belongs to late-maturing varieties and produces average, stable yields provided that regular rejuvenation pruning is carried out. The variety is prone to fruit drop and may be sensitive to shoot damage during mechanical harvesting.

The variety has low resistance to diseases: it is characterized by high susceptibility to American gooseberry mildew and is also prone to leaf spot and rust.
