Variety description

The variety forms a vigorous, wide bush reaching a height of up to 1.8 meters. The berries are large, black in color with dark flesh, and possess an intense aroma and high acidity. The variety received its name due to the long clusters on which the fruits are located.

The plant belongs to very early varieties, with harvesting beginning in early July. The berries ripen almost simultaneously; however, when overripe, they are prone to shedding and softening. The variety is winter hardy, exhibits resistance to powdery mildew, but is sensitive to moisture deficit.

Due to the pronounced aroma, the fruits are a sought-after raw material for processing into juices, jellies, and liqueurs. In scientific literature, the variety is also known as Boskoop Giant and is used as a genetic reference in research on the blackcurrant genome.
