The variety is of European origin, appearing in the Netherlands around 1885. The bush is characterized by vigorous growth and semi-upright shoots. In German-speaking countries, it is known as «Schwarze Langtraubige»; name variations also exist, for example «Rosenthals Schwarze Langtraubige».
The variety belongs to the early group; harvest usually takes place at the end of June. Berries are arranged in rather long, loose clusters and do not hold on the bush for very long after ripening. The variety can be susceptible to rust, powdery mildew, and gall mites, which is characteristic of old European varieties.
The fruits are suitable for fresh consumption and are especially recommended for various types of processing. The variety is of interest for the conservation of biodiversity; due to its age, clonal variations or types with similar names may be encountered in sources.
