The plant forms vigorous stems 3 to 15 meters in length, which are capable of actively rooting at the tips. In horticultural literature, the bush shape is sometimes described as more compact (1.5–2 meters), requiring the use of trellises.

The berries have an oval shape, a glossy black color, and a sweet-and-sour taste. The fruiting period is extended. The crop demonstrates resistance to leaf spot, however, it possesses medium or low winter hardiness, which requires covering in the conditions of the central region.

The presence of thorns varies: from their absence in some garden descriptions to large and sharp thorns in wild forms of the species. The crop is used for harvesting for fresh consumption and processing.
