The Kortur variety was bred at the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn as a specialized energy crop. The biomass of this variety possesses specific thermophysical properties, including certain indicators of calorific value, moisture content, and ash content, which allow the plant to be used as a renewable energy source.

As a representative of the Salix viminalis species, the variety inherits the species traits of a fast-growing plant with flexible shoots. The variety has undergone selective breeding for adaptation to the climatic conditions of the region and growth efficiency when cultivated on an industrial scale.
