The variety is an evergreen perennial herbaceous plant, forming dense mats or cushions up to 20–30 cm in height. The leaves are dark green, oval-shaped, gathered in rosettes. The flowering period occurs from April to June; the flowers have a star shape and an intense red color.

The plant is winter-hardy and suitable for edging, rock gardens, and container cultivation. For full development and flowering, the variety requires a vernalization period at a temperature of 2–7 °C lasting 6–8 weeks. The plant prefers light, well-drained soils and is sensitive to waterlogging and Botrytis infection at the end of the cultivation cycle.
