The variety Antonia is characterized by the black color of the root. During the development of the variety, breeders focused on yield, root shape, and disease resistance, in particular to powdery mildew.
The plant has a horizontal leaf attitude. In UPOV documentation, the variety is used as a reference for describing the morphological traits of the species Scorzonera hispanica L.
