The variety belongs to the "Svedjerug" type, which was brought to Norway by Finnish immigrants in the 17th century. The modern population was restored in the 1970s from seven germinated grains found in an old granary.
The plant is a biennial crop and reaches a height of over 2.5 meters. The variety was historically adapted to cultivation on cleared forest plots in ash.
The grain is characterized by an increased content of protein and dietary fiber, as well as high aromaticity. The product is used in baking to improve the texture and flavor of baked goods, and is also used in malt production.
