The plant is a slow-growing shrub 80–100 cm in height, in rare cases reaching 1.5 m. Dark green leaves may develop a bronze hue under certain conditions. Flowering occurs in the spring, when dense paniculate inflorescences of small star-shaped flowers form on the bush.

The variety prefers partially shaded or shaded locations with moist, well-drained, and slightly acidic soils. It is a winter-hardy plant for temperate climates. It is used in landscape design for borders, shaded garden areas, and container gardening.
