The variety is a local crop that has retained its original morphological characteristics since its introduction from the Andes in the 17th century. The plant is adapted to the specific climate and volcanic soils of the Canary Islands.

Tubers are medium-sized, round in shape with irregularities, and have dark purple-violet, sometimes brown-spotted, rough skin. The flesh is cream-colored, eyes are shallow to medium-deep, and sprouts are violet with white spots.

The variety is mid-late to late-maturing with a vegetation cycle of 5 to 6 months. It possesses a long dormancy period exceeding 4 months, which ensures good keeping quality during storage.
