The variety belongs to the "Bonitas" group and is a descendant of the potato introduced to the Canary Islands from Peru in the 16th century. In literature, the variety is also found under the synonym Bonita Rameada and is characterized as a landrace that retains traits distinct from modern industrial varieties.

The plant successfully grows in the climate of the northern part of Tenerife at an altitude of 500 to 1000 meters above sea level. The variety is traditionally used in local cuisine, in particular for preparing the dish papas arrugadas, and is valued for its specific taste qualities.
