The variety belongs to the Solanum tuberosum subsp. andigenum group and is a landrace maintained in the Canary Islands for centuries. The plant is used for the local market and is a gastronomic symbol of the region, traditionally used for preparing the dish papas arrugadas.

Tubers are predominantly round, often irregular in shape. The skin is reddish-purple, sometimes with orange or brown patches; eyes are more intensely colored and of medium depth. The flesh is pale cream in color, firm, with an oily texture. Sprouts are purple with whitish highlights.

The variety is characterized by low productivity, often due to susceptibility to viral diseases. The growing cycle depends on local climatic conditions and can range from 4 to 6 months. The variety is part of the Bonita group of varieties, which may cause it to be visually similar to other local types.
