Tubers have a rounded or slightly elongated shape with slight protrusions between the eyes. The skin is pale reddish-purple with orange-brown spots, smooth to the touch. The flesh is cream-colored. Sprouts develop slowly and have a purple coloration.

The variety is grown primarily under high-altitude rainfed conditions. It is valued for its buttery texture and spicy taste. The main culinary use is the preparation of the traditional dish papas arrugadas, in which potatoes are boiled in their skins in salted water.
