The variety is a product of Estonian breeding and was developed at the Jõgeva Plant Breeding Institute. In the potato pedigree database, Ando is recorded as the result of crossing lines 382-48 and AGRA.

The plant belongs to the mid-late maturity group. It possesses increased field resistance to late blight (Phytophthora infestans), however, it is characterized by high susceptibility to potato virus Y (PVY). The variety is used for food purposes in local farms of Estonia.
