The variety has a long history of cultivation in Sweden and is classified as a conservation variety. Due to its wide distribution, it has many synonyms, such as Farbror Frans, Finnmarkspotatis, Freker, Nolor, Rödpäror, Rökingepotatis, Socker, Visingsö röd, Våmhus, Västerbottens röd, and the Icelandic Rauðar íslenskar.

The tubers are round-oval, often slightly flattened, with red-violet skin and deep-set eyes. The flesh is light yellow, sometimes with a reddish tinge. The variety is of mid-season or mid-late maturity, characterized by good taste, dry texture, and high sugar content.

Under a short growing season or adverse conditions, the tubers are prone to forming small sizes. Historically, the variety was used in households; specific data on disease resistance are absent in publications.
