The Benno Vrizo variety was obtained as a result of breeding work crossing the Dekker B 7-16 and Provita lines. The plant appears in scientific documentation and lists of potatoes intended for use or sale as seed material.
The variety is considered in research as source material for studying resistance to nematodes. It is also included in lists of varieties undergoing testing for resistance to potato wart, caused by the pathogen Synchytrium endobioticum.
