Carminelle is a mid-early gourmet variety belonging to the fingerling potato group. The tubers have a long oval shape, shallow eyes, bright red skin, and light yellow flesh. The plant is characterized by a medium to large bush size, ranging from semi-erect to spreading type.
The variety is high-yielding, has good keeping quality, and low sensitivity to internal bruising. Due to the dense waxy structure of the flesh, the variety does not boil over and is recommended for frying, baking, and making salads.
The variety has resistance to nematodes and virus A, and is relatively resistant to common scab and virus Y. It shows a medium degree of susceptibility to late blight of leaves and tubers, as well as to virus X.
