The Futura variety was developed by breeders as a result of crossing the Agria and Morene varieties. In the course of breeding work, genetic resistance to the golden potato cyst nematode of the species Globodera rostochiensis (pathotype Ro 1) was achieved.

The variety is mentioned in specialized studies evaluating the influence of various tuber characteristics on their marketability and suitability for washing.
