The variety was obtained in 1981 by crossing the varieties Apollo and Alcmaria. It is widely known as an object of scientific research, in particular in the study of potato dihaploids and DNA introgression.
Lizen has been used as a parental form in the development of other varieties, for example, the variety Anaïs, obtained as a result of crossing Monalisa and Lizen. The variety is not intended for mass commercial production.
