The variety belongs to the "Sarpo" group, created within the breeding program of Dr. Istvan Sarvari. Work on this group of varieties was aimed at obtaining resistance to late blight by crossing Hungarian varieties with wild potato species.
Plants of the group are characterized by vigorous, strongly growing haulm, capable of rapidly suppressing weeds, and a long growing season until frost. Tubers possess a pronounced ability for long-term storage due to an inherent dormancy period. Detailed morphological characteristics of the specific Sarpo Extra variety are practically absent in open publications.
