The European Victoria variety is the result of crossing the Agria and Rop J 861 varieties. The plants are tall and upright, forming oval or elongated-oval tubers with smooth or netted light-yellow skin and yellow flesh. The eyes are shallow. The variety is characterized by high yield, good keeping quality, and a long dormancy period, belonging to culinary type B.
This potato is resistant to Globodera rostochiensis and Synchytrium endobioticum, moderately resistant to Phytophthora infestans, leaf roll, PVX and PVY, but susceptible to common scab. It is suitable for fresh consumption and the preparation of french fries.
The Ugandan line of the Victoria variety was bred from a population from Peru. This variety is distinguished by red skin and cream flesh, and possesses an early maturity period. During cultivation, the variety lost its initial resistance to Phytophthora infestans, becoming extremely susceptible to this disease.
