The Bornite variety is part of the KWS company's program for developing spinach for a year-round production cycle. Target characteristics for such varieties include high uniformity of plants for mechanical harvesting, as well as the formation of high-quality, dark green, rounded leaves with a crisp texture and long shelf life.

Breeding is aimed at ensuring resistance to major pathogens, in particular downy mildew. Since the variety is in the process of state registration, detailed information on its morphological traits, maturity dates, and yields is not available in open sources.
