The Fruremona variety is a monoecious spring spinach. In the course of breeding work using ethyl methanesulfonate, a mutant characterized by a prolonged vegetative phase was obtained from this variety.
The plant possesses genetic resistance to powdery mildew affecting races 1 and 2 of the pathogen. Due to its properties, the variety often serves as a model organism for studying enzymatic activity and for breeding programs focused on plant sex modification and oxalate research.
