The soft winter wheat variety Branka was developed within the framework of Czechoslovakian breeding programs. It belongs to varieties with soft grain texture and is frequently cited in scientific publications dedicated to the history of breeding and the study of the gene pool of winter grain crops in the region.
The plant possesses a 1B/1R genetic translocation, which provides its increased resistance to stem rust (Puccinia graminis) infection. The variety has been repeatedly used as a control sample or test subject when studying wheat reactions to various rust races, as well as when analyzing the vernalization requirements of winter varieties.
