The variety is short-stemmed, belongs to the group of semi-dwarf varieties carrying the Rht-D1b gene, with a grain-to-straw ratio of 1:0.8. It was used in breeding programs to improve baking quality and study glutenin composition.
The plant possesses genetic resistance to a number of pathogens: it contains the Pm6 gene responsible for resistance to powdery mildew, as well as the Yr1 and Yr4 genes associated with resistance to rust.
Between 1985 and 1990, the variety was grown in experimental plots, including the Rothamsted station. It served as a parent form in the breeding of the Abbot and Buster varieties.
