The Croatian soft wheat variety Fortuna was developed in 1991 at the Agricultural Institute Osijek. In scientific literature, the variety is predominantly considered an object of research in the fields of genetics and breeding, while detailed morphological descriptions in open sources are limited.
There are also wheat varieties of the same name from other breeding programs: a Russian soft winter wheat variety, developed via hybridization, and an American spring wheat variety, possessing resistance to the wheat stem sawfly.
