Variety description

10 August 2026

The spring common wheat variety Frisal was bred by breeders at the Swiss station Agroscope. It was widely used in scientific publications as a genetically standard material for conducting experiments, in particular for creating transgenic wheat lines with the introduction of chitinase and glucanase genes.

The plant is susceptible to powdery mildew, which led to its active use in research on improving fungal resistance of agricultural crops. The variety is mentioned in breeding programs aimed at improving baking quality, however, it is no longer grown in modern Swiss production.
