The Golin variety is a soft spring wheat bred in Switzerland. It is not positioned as a variety for mass agricultural production, but serves as an important resource for molecular genetic work and the study of genotype-environment interaction.
In scientific literature, the variety is used to create genetically modified lines resistant to fungal diseases, in particular, through the introduction of chitinase, glucanase, and RIP genes. The variety is used as a base or control sample when studying resistance to loose smut (Ustilago tritici).
