The Hope variety was developed in the USA as a result of an interspecific cross between the varieties Yaroslav Emmer (Triticum dicoccum) and Marquis (Triticum aestivum).
This variety has been widely used in global breeding practice as an important source of pathogen resistance genes, including the Pm5 gene, which provides resistance to powdery mildew.
