The variety was obtained by crossing Lerma Rojo 64 and Sonora 64. The plant is characterized by fully awned, semi-loose, and nodding spikes with white glumes. The grain is large, semi-hard, and light red in color.
The variety shows resistance to stem rust and leaf rust, as well as to lodging. At the same time, susceptibility to common bunt and barley yellow dwarf virus is observed. The produce is suitable for the baking industry and meets standard milling requirements.
Inia 66 was widely used in global breeding programs as a donor of high yield traits and disease resistance. Improved selections, such as Inia 66R, and various mutant lines were created based on this variety.
