The wheat variety Markant was created by the Danish breeding company Sejet Planteforædling. Its genetics were applied in further breeding work, particularly in the development of the wheat variety Hamar, in whose pedigree the Markant variety served as one of the parents in the Ivory x Markant cross.
In Danish documents, the Markant variety appears in lists evaluating indicators such as maturity dates, stem resistance to lodging, and susceptibility to diseases, including powdery mildew and leaf blotch. The variety participated in comparative variety trials in Denmark in the late 1990s.
