The variety is late-maturing. The plant has a shorter stem compared to the tall varieties of its time, which improves lodging resistance and allows it to be grown at higher sowing densities. The ear is white, dense, has parallel sides, and short awns in the upper part.
The variety exhibits resistance to rust of the 'slow rusting' type. At the same time, it is sensitive to drought and susceptible to infestation by the aphid Sitobion avenae. Baking properties are assessed as low due to specific dough characteristics that hinder kneading.
It was intended for intensive cultivation in the UK and Northwestern Europe. Due to its high yield, it became the foundation for subsequent breeding work and is frequently used in modern research as a model organism for studying plant height genes.
