The Rang variety was obtained by introducing the powdery mildew resistance gene into the Ring variety using backcrossing. The variety's genotype contains resistance genes Pm1a, Pm2, Pm4b, and Pm9.
The variety is widely known in genetic research as a resistance donor for the improvement of other varieties. In scientific literature, it is considered more as a genetic marker or research object than as a commercial variety with detailed agronomic characteristics.
