The Sollario variety belongs to the species Triticum aestivum L. and is a soft wheat of French origin. It is frequently used in scientific research related to phytopathology, in particular for studying resistance to the stem rust pathogen Puccinia graminis.
A genetic characteristic of the variety is the presence of the Sr31 resistance gene. In the documentation of the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV), the variety is included in the test guidelines as a reference sample, where it is used to compare morphological characteristics, for example, when describing the beak shape of the lower glume.
