Castiglione glabro is an ancient form of durum wheat of Sicilian origin, mentions of which are found from the beginning of the 19th century. Historically, the variety was grown by local farmers and is currently used primarily in scientific programs for the conservation of agrobiodiversity.

The plant possesses a long ear, measuring approximately 8.5–8.7 cm. The variety demonstrates good productivity and a high grain weight per plant. It is adapted to Mediterranean conditions, including arid and semi-arid environments, and exhibits resistance to stress factors, in particular to soil salinity.
