The variety is early-maturing, with a period from sowing to ripening of about 125 days. The plant height reaches 150 cm on average, including the ear. The variety is distributed in the lowland and hilly areas of the Trapani and Palermo provinces.
The grain of the variety is used to produce semolina and durum wheat flour. Gioiosedda belongs to traditional local varieties of Sicily and is used in organic farming.
