The Moro variety belongs to club wheat, which is a type of common wheat. The variety possesses resistance to a number of diseases, in particular, it is a source of the stripe rust resistance gene Yr10. It was used for the development of dryland farming.
The name Moro is also widely known in scientific literature as one of the differential varieties or testers used for determining physiological races of the stripe rust pathogen Puccinia striiformis.
