Moru nieddu is a folk variety that has adapted to the conditions of the island of Sardinia over a long period. It is not a breeding variety in the modern sense and is also known by the local names Trigu moru and Trigu moru nieddu.
The variety is historically valued for its good yield and the high quality of semolina, suitable for the production of dried pasta and bread with a soft crumb. Detailed agronomic characteristics of the plant are not provided in publicly available publications.
