The plant is characterized by high stature and a semi-erect habit with a thick, lodging-resistant stem. The spike is of medium length and is characterized by density and the presence of long black awns. The grain has a yellow color with a slight reddish tint and an oval-elongated shape.
Historically, the variety was used for the production of flour for baking and pasta. Under modern conditions, it is considered an object for the conservation of biodiversity and is also being studied as a component in craft brewing, where its use imparts a specific bitter and tart taste to the beverage.
