The Sachem variety is widely used as a parent form or control sample in the study of genetic resistance of wheat to diseases. It possesses pronounced resistance to leaf rust (Puccinia triticina), stem rust (Puccinia graminis), and yellow rust (Puccinia striiformis).

The presence of specific resistance genes, in particular Lr14a, has been confirmed in the genotype of the variety, and quantitative trait loci (QTL) responsible for resistance to pathogens have been identified. Agronomic characteristics, such as plant height, maturity group, and grain quality indicators, are not described in scientific literature.
