ActiveVaccinium L. · Bilberry
RIDLEY WILLIAM BELL
10 August 2026
The bushes of the variety are vigorous and fast-growing, reaching a height of 1.5–1.8 m. The plant has an upright, open-type habit with strong, thick shoots resistant to lodging. The foliage is large, green in color, and turns bright shades of yellow, orange, red, and purple in the autumn.
The berries have a medium size of about 2 cm in diameter and a weight of 1.8–2.2 g, colored light blue with a pronounced waxy bloom. The flesh is firm, the taste is sweet with a slight acidity. The variety is distinguished by a high, regular yield of 3 to 6 kg per bush and high winter hardiness, withstanding frosts down to –30...–32 °C, as well as the resistance of flowers to late spring frosts.
The variety possesses good resistance to Monilinia blight, twig dieback, and mummy berry disease. The berries are suitable for fresh consumption, processing, freezing, and mechanical harvesting. After ripening, the fruits can remain on the bush for a long time; however, they may drop if overripe.
