Ridley 1403
ActiveVaccinium L. · Bilberry
RIDLEY WILLIAM BELL
10 August 2026
The shrub is vigorous, powerful, and upright, with a height of 1.2 to 1.8 m. The leaves are dark green, slightly corrugated, and turn a bright red color in autumn. The flowers are colored in white-pink or light pink tones.
The berries are large, with a mass of about 2.2 g and a diameter of 17–22 mm, round in shape, light blue with a waxy bloom. The flesh is firm; the taste is sweet, dessert-like with an aroma. The variety is mid-season, ripening from the end of July to the beginning of August.
The yield is 5–8 kg per mature shrub; due to a tendency for excessive fruiting, regular pruning is required. The plant possesses high winter hardiness (from -28°C to -34°C) and resistance to a number of diseases, including Monilinia blight and berry mummy berry disease.
