Ridley 1403
ActiveVaccinium L. · Bilberry
RIDLEY WILLIAM BELL
10 August 2026
The bush is vigorous, reaching a height of 1.8–2.2 m, has a spreading habit and requires regular pruning. The variety possesses high winter hardiness, withstanding temperature drops down to -34...-40 °C, and propagates easily.
The berries are large, 20–22 mm in diameter, flattened in shape, and gathered in loose clusters. The flavor of the fruit is sweet, delicate, with a hint of acidity. After ripening, the berries do not drop and do not crack for 1–2 weeks. Yield ranges from 5 to 9 kg per bush.
The variety is self-pollinating, while proximity to other varieties with the same flowering period increases yield. The plant is decorative due to its white-pink flowers in the spring and bright red or crimson-orange foliage in the autumn. It is demanding regarding soil conditions and acidity levels.
