The variety has a historical connection to the period of Genoese rule on the island of Corsica. Its exact genetic origin currently remains unknown.

In winemaking, the variety is used exclusively in blends, with its share in wines with a Protected Designation of Origin usually not exceeding 10%.

Information on morphological traits and disease resistance for this variety is either unavailable in the public domain or fragmentary. It is important to note that the variety differs from the Italian variety Bianchetta Genovese, with which it is sometimes erroneously identified.
