The variety is of European origin and is the result of a natural mutation of the ancient Traminer variety. The purpose of the variety is exclusively for winemaking; the grapes are intended for creating wines with characteristic aromas of lychee, rose petals, and exotic fruits.

The plant is demanding regarding harvest timing, as it loses acidity when overripe on the vine, and lacks aromatic expressiveness when harvested too early. The variety is temperamental in cultivation: it is moderately resistant to powdery mildew and gray mold, is not resistant to frosts and drought, and also has a tendency for ovary shedding during flowering.
