ActiveVitis vinifera L. · Common grape vine
TIMOTHY SHEEHAN
10 August 2026
The variety is an ancient local plant restored after near-extinction. Morphologically, it is distinguished by large, pentagonal, five-lobed leaves and long tendrils. The shoot tip is open with slight anthocyanin pigmentation.
The grapes ripen relatively late and are sensitive to rainfall levels. Wines from this variety have a golden color and an aromatic profile that includes notes of stone fruits, pineapple, apple, Mediterranean herbs, and honey.
One should distinguish this white variety from the Italian red grape variety Giró, as these are different plants.
