The Istriţa variety was bred at the Pietroasa Research and Development Institute for Viticulture and Enology. It is intended for fresh consumption and is used in scientific research to evaluate ampelographic descriptors and study the biological characteristics of table varieties.

The berries of this variety have a yellow-green skin color. Frost resistance studies have shown that the variety has low resistance to severe winter conditions, which is manifested in reduced bud viability.
