The variety is autochthonous to the island of Korčula, although its genetic connection to Greek varieties has not been confirmed. It is an ancient grape traditionally cultivated primarily on the sandy soils of the Lumbarda area.

A key feature is the functionally female flower type, which makes the variety incapable of self-pollination and requires the presence of pollinator varieties that bloom at the same time. Uneven pollination leads to the formation of heterogeneous clusters with berries of different sizes.

The grape is used for the production of high-quality dry white wines, characterized by fresh acidity, minerality, and notes of citrus and stone fruits. The variety also serves as a base for dessert wines, such as prošek.

Due to its biological characteristics and limited growing area, the variety is considered rare and valuable; conservation efforts are underway in Croatia.
