The variety is a local Greek grape, presumably originating from folk selection. The designation N in the name indicates the dark color of the berries. There is also a related variety Korithi Aspro, which is mentioned in a number of sources as a synonym for the Baresana variety.

The variety is used primarily for wine production, although there are mentions of the possibility of its use as a table grape. Detailed agronomic characteristics, including maturity groups and disease resistance, are not presented in open reference publications.
